The first time I heard about Uncover Skincare was at Beauty West Africa 2022. I attended with my friend Funke Tonye Preghafi of Blot Cosmetics and she went through the maze of booths looking for Uncover. We got to the stand and met Jade Oyateru, a Co-Founder and the COO.
That was the first time I heard about Uncover Skincare.
But I loved the bright packaging and there is nothing better than skincare for Africans by an African. There was also the infusion of K-Beauty techniques into the product and with the popularity of Asian beauty products fueled by their effectiveness, there didn't seem like a better time for such a brand. Jade told Funke and me that the brand would be launching in Nigeria in 2023 and we both looked forward to it.
When the brand launched in Nigeria, I was in need of toner and decided to purchase the Uncover Skincare Rooibos Toner for myself. Not too long after, I received the Uncover Skincare Aloe Invisible Sunscreen in a PR package.
Uncover Rooibos Glow Toner
This was the first Uncover skincare product I tried because I really needed a toner. I was still in the early stages of my aesthetician-recommended skincare routine so this was more important to me at the time.
Rebalancing, gentle exfoliating tonerThis daily toner is infused with 1% PHA, Hyaluronic Acid, Kombucha and African Rooibos Leaf Extract to protect the skin barrier by balancing skin pH.
Being a newbie to an intense skincare routine, this was a bit of a new experience for me and my first time using an alcohol-free toner. I didn't know what to expect. Over time, it became clear to me that this toner is
- perfect for new entrants into the skincare game - like I was at the time
- great for sensitive skin
- the toner to use when you absolutely need to use a toner but have some bruises on your skin from a pinched pimple or a scratch or things like that. With Hyaluronic acid, the bruise is certain to heal quickly with less likelihood of a scar
With prolonged use, the exfoliating benefits and hyperpigmentation-eliminating qualities of the toner are sure to come through.

No white cast, lightweight SPF 50+ sunscreen infused with Hyaluronic Acid and African Aloe Vera, perfect for daily use.
The brand description is definitely an undersell for the product in my opinion.
With a single application, the very first and one of the most defining sunscreen qualities is seen and felt when using this product and that is the non-greasy finish. The majority of sunscreen products in the market have a greasy, shiny finish which inhibits sunscreen usage amongst people with oily skin.
I have been recommending this product to every single person I know who has an issue with the greasy finish of sunscreen products and even purchased it for a colleague very recently.
The pros of the Uncover Aloe Sunscreen far outweigh whatever cons there may be and that's why I went ahead to post this on Instagram
I will be honest and say that while the Toner is not a deal breaker for me and I may not necessarily re-purchase, the Sunscreen is a definite item on my skincare list that will continue to be recommended and re-purchased time and time again. The Uncover Sunscreen is a definite 10/10.
