High Powered Body Language Tips for Success

We all want to be high powered and sit in positions of authority after attaining success right?
Well, it does seem that your body can help you do that.

On a random stroll across the internet, I came across this article and was intrigued by it.

So apparently, your body posture impacts your frame of mind, hmmm. I would have never thought of that. It goes like this - You control your body, but your body also controls you. Simple gestures, simple postures -- each make a dramatic impact on how you think, feel, and perform.

It doesn't mean you have to be an athlete or yogi or contortionist to take advantage of that. You can still be you. Only now you can be a better you.

Here are some cool postures we've been told to try out (which some successful entrepreneurs swear by):
  • Lie Back and relax. According to Australia National University professor Dr. Darren Lipnicki, lying down can lead to creative breakthroughs. "It might be that we have our most creative thoughts while flat on our back," he says. One reason might be that more of the chemical noradrenaline is released while we're standing, and noradrenaline could inhibit our ability to think creatively. No sleeping though but apparently lying back for a little bit might just be what you need to get that breakthrough idea you’ve been craving all month long.
  • Fold your arms. Usually, it is said to mean being confrontational or even unapproachable but apparently, folding your arms, they say, makes you more determined to solve a niggling problem.
  • Power Pose. We aren’t quite sure what they call it but it is usually a stand made by heroes ie. Standing with your hands on your hips (arms akinbo i think they call it). It increases the level of confidence. At the door of a big meeting? Power pose for a few minutes and you’ll do just fine.
  • Smile. (I do this a lot already) Haven’t you heard that the face needs more muscles to frown than to smile? Get that stress off your face or you’ll be in danger of early wrinkles. Besides, smiling does reduce stress and other people are sure to smile back at you.
  • Maintain positive eye contact. In many parts of the world, one is expected to maintain eye contact 50 - 60% of the time during a business discussion. I believe looking someone in the eye and not wavering is a sign of inner strength and it somehow makes one believable. I've a trick I do which works all the time, every time but they say look long enough to notice the colour of the person's eye *shrug*
  • The handshake. OMG, sometimes some people's handshake is like a wet dog. I absolutely hate that. They say the right handshake can give you instant credibility and the wrong one can cost you a job. So I guess its worth trying to improve your grip in a handshake if you don't have a strong one. Not a bone-crushing grip, just one that is strong enough to convey inner strength.
  • Chew Gum. I read it just like you are right now. Apparently it helps one to be alert and in a better mood (hmmmm). Also said to help with attention – nodding solemnly as I put one orbit in my mouth.
There are more of these tips here but my favourite and the ones I have already cultivated are 4, 5 & 6. I kind of agree with some of them though so I'm not going to diss them entirely and tell you they aren't true. It won't hurt to try some of them out.
