Liebster Blog Award

15 Nov 2011

Dearest Gnoma of Polishically Incorrect, sent me the Liebster Award for new blogs. Thank you!  I feel so honoured and to think you sent it all the way from Italy. Im tickled thoroughly.Embarrassed smile Gnoma is a nail polish fanatic hence the name Polishically *wink*

Now I know this award isnt very common in my part of the universe so im going to have to give a brief explanation as to what this award is all about. This excerpt about the Liebster Award was gotten from The Bling Buoy

The word “liebster” originates in Germany where it literally translates to mean “dearest”.  But delve further, and you find that people use and interpret the word “liebster” in very different ways.  It can be used as an informal address at the beginning of a letter, such as “liebster freund”, which literally translates to “dearest friend”.  Although apparently it is rarely used in this way as it can also be interpreted to suggest the recipient is the dearest friend of all!  WAY too intimate for a casual note to the School P&F President about the weekend working bee!  High “awkward” potential there!
Even sticking to the modern “English” translation of the word, “dearest” can be interpreted in a perplexing myriad of ways.  From the nag weary husband responding to his wife’s ten billionth reminder to wipe his feet before entering the house with a “yes dearest”, through resentment clenched teeth.  To the new mum staring gooey eyed at her gorgeous new baby, cooing about how he is “the dearest little thing”, before passing out from exhaustion.
Even Shakespeare toyed with the word “dearest”, penning:
“Nothing in his life became him like the leaving it; he died as one that had been studied in his death to throw away the dearest thing he owed, as ‘t were a careless trifle. (Macbeth Act I, Scene IV)”
It’s times like these I really wish I could channel my Grade 12 English teacher.  Oh hang on… surely that’s what Facebook was invented for!  OMG I just plugged in her name… and seriously can’t believe good ‘ole Mrs W has a Facebook account!  Yippee!  Anyway, she says this excerpt means that he didn’t do anything all that well in life… but in dying, he left his life as though he had put care into the dying process, to make it seem as though his dearest possession, being his life, was worth nothing.  Oke dokey.
Now I think about it some more, it seems to me as though Shakespeare knew a bit more about blogging than people gave him credit for.  He speaks of the value of life, being the dearest thing, and bloggers who make time to document their life appreciate this all too well.  That’s why they are documenting it.  To preserve some of life’s magic.  Shakespeare also delighted in playing with people’s minds in the way he mixed his words… his famous plays have been interpreted more ways than even he could ever have imagined.  And anyone who has been cruising the blogosphere for more than 5 minutes knows that anything a blogger writes can be interpreted in the most unexpected and provocative ways.  Sometimes blog comments teach you more about humanity than the original blog post!  While I am very fortunate that I have only ever received lovely, supportive comments (thank you blogosphere!), for some bloggers, the comments directed their way have been very confronting.  Sometimes inspiring.  Sometimes quite alarming!  And I can only imagine that when you finally muster up the bravado to expose the inner workings of your heart, soul and mind in a blog… only to have them completely misunderstood or belittled…. then that must really sting.  Which is why awards such as the Liebster Blog Award are so important.  Because they remind us that blogging provides humanity with a totally unique way of preserving the magic and complexity of modern life… and for this reason alone, all personal blogs should all be held dearest.

Lovely excerpt right? me too. huh! Nwayz, like I was saying, the rules for the Liebster Award are as follows:
