Nigerian Makeup Brands

19.8.12

This post is way over due and I think I should have started this blog with this post. However, I am glad I did not as I did not have the experience or exposure in the industry to provide a comprehensive post on these brands.

Over the years, I can proudly say that the Nigerian makeup industry has grown at a rapid and always progressive rate. I have been opportuned to be a part of this growth even though minute but I am so glad and appreciative of the opportunity.

In no particular order, I have listed the current list of Nigerian makeup brands below:

Tara Orekelewa
This is the very first makeup brand I knew and came in contact with. This was while I was in the University so it only leads me to assume that this was the very first indigenous makeup brand in Nigeria. This brand is made up of both makeup products, brush sets and makeup artist bags which are handy for when a traincase is not practical.
My favourite of their products are the trio eye shadows which I am known to use a lot (for those who have followed by blog from the very beginning). My newest favourite of this brand is the black twist-up eye liner pencil (review of this product coming soon on Frends Beauty). I am looking forward to trying out the Tara blue mascara pretty soon.
You can purchase any of the products from the House of Tara website

BMPro

Owned by one of Nigeria's top makeup artists, this is one brand I am still getting used to. You will recall that I attended the launch of its Ikeja store last year November. I am not very familiar with this brand but I currently use a BMPro red e/s as a blush which works perfectly well and I love it. This brand also has a complete line of makeup products and brushes.
I recently purchased a BMPro eye light and I am looking forward to trying it out. Review is definitely coming soon. I am also looking forward to trying out the cute lip colour cubes I saw when I last visited the store.
The BMPro website is live, visit here

LISE Beauty Range

I came across this brand after my surjourn into the world of makeup. It is another indigenous brand with a complete line of makeup products only. After purchasing the green cream liner, I am looking forward to trying out their other products.
Remember the LISE free workshop and review party where the brand owner shared some tips and tricks with members of the makeup public? Well, I am glad to say that you can get to know more about this brand via the LISE Beauty range website

Khuraira Cosmetics

Based out of the US and aggressively set to become well known in Nigeria, this makeup brand founded by a Nigerian has a complete line of skincare, makeup and tools. They are also the first Nigerian brand to have an airbrush system. With a lot of international awards and even a thumbs up from the Oprah Winfrey Show, I must say that this is a brand on a mission.
I must say that after reviewing some of their skincare and makeup products, I am impressed with this brand and look forward to trying out more of their products. The Khuraira mascara is a favourite of mine.
You can currently purchase any of their products here in Nigeria and can contact them via the Khuraira website

Zaron

In less than a year, this makeup brand has stamped its name in the consciousness of makeup loving Nigerians. With richly pigmented makeup products, many of which I have reviewed on my blog, this brand with a line of makeup products and a personal brush set is off to a very good start.
With the lengthening mascara and 12 colour palettes as a favourite of mine, I am sure you won't be disappointed.
For more details on their products be sure to visit their website

Blush Beauty

Also a new comer into the Nigerian makeup scene, this complete makeup and brush brand is yet to be well known. I must say though that this brand is very well on its way there.
My favourite is its extensive line of pencils which I only recently discovered and this has made me long to try out the other products in the range.
For more info and details, visit the Blush beauty website

Unveil Makeup

First known by me for its professional brush set, I recently found out that this brand also has a line of makeup products. Not having tried out any of the products in this line, I am currently unable to say anything about it. I am however looking forward to especially trying out the powders, blushes and of course (being a sucker for brushes) the brush set too.
For more info on this brand, check out the Unveil website

Crystal Eyez

This is another US based Nigerian brand with a makeup and brush line. I have known about this brand for a while but have been unable to get the products here in Nigeria. So once again, I am unable to say anything about the brand. I am however though, looking forward to reviewing the lip glosses which this brand is well known for.
You can check out the Crystal Eyez website

Gifty's Daughter

This is an indigenous professional makeup brush brand which was the very first indigenous brand I reviewed on my blog (you can check out the review here). This is a brand that is constantly improving on itself and researching more ways to do it better and get it right.
You can purchase the GD brushes from their website

Sacred Artistry

A new comer into the market, this brand is for the professional makeup artist and is set to be the first brand that focuses on helping makeup artists compress their kits. My very first product review from this brand was the 24-well palette (check it out here) and I can assure you that there is more where that came from.
This brand will be formally launching its entire collection soon so stay tuned for more info. You can also check out their website

Arike

There has been recent goings on about a brand of eyeshadows and lipglosses called Arike. These have been reviewed by a  fellow Nigerian makeup artist (you can check out the review here). I am also looking forward to getting my hands on them and trying them out too.

Allechant Mineral Cosmetics

This is Nigeria's first line of mineral cosmetics. Not a very big fan of mineral cosmetics, I have high hopes that being made by an African, they will be pigmented enough to show up beautifully on our skin with no extra work. Will definitely be on the look out for this brand and will surely publish a review of it. Allechant can be found here on facebook.

Toni Payne cosmetics

An old player in the Nigerian makeup scene, Toni Payne cosmetics is yet to hit the radar as the other makeup brands on this list. I am unsure as to the continued existence of this brand and will definitely ascertain this. As at last sighting, it was sold at a certain boutique in the Surulere area of Lagos state - CQ Boutique. I will definitely be paying them a visit soon.

Kemi Kings

I heard from a loud whisper that Kemi Kings, a UK based Nigerian makeup artist will be bringing out a line of makeup products soon. I am looking forward to this so all I will say is stay tuned for more info on this. In the meantime, be sure to check out her website

I surely hope this post has proven helpful to those of you out there who are unaware of existing Nigerian products. All my Nigerian product reviews will now be found on frendsbeauty.wordpress.com so be sure to visit regularly as I just may have reviewed that product you have been on the search for.
